about

We attempt to write memorable music tailored for moshing and prefer to mock typical thrash clichés rather than embrace them. We have conquered the small rural area known as Chicago and are now setting our sites on the rest of the world. Awww, here it goes...

“The current lineup consists of: Eddie Esquivel on guitar/ vocals, Brian Koz on guitar/backup vocals, Allan Gonzalez on drums/ backup vocals, and Robert Salinas on Bass. Sprouting as a joke side project from a previous band that Esquivel and Gonzalez were in, this band has turned into something worth listening to. They came up with their unique name one day as they were humoring brutal band names over some burgers at Kuma’s Corner. “We wanted a band name that we know for sure, one hundred percent, is not taken by any other band in the whole entire world. And we did it, we did it!” Gonzalez cheered proudly. “I just chose it ‘cause I thought it was funny, and I wanted to see how many people would actually listen to a band called Smash Potater- and I guess it’s a decent amount,” added Esquivel. Since their inception, they have released three demos, a split with Attack Imminent, and two EP’s: Morbidly Obese, Christ-Smash, Zom-Beez, Horrific Halloween Double Creature Feature, The EP, and In Buffet There is No Law! Starting out with a generally thrashy sound they quickly turned to crossover, and when Koz joined the band the death metal influence rolled in.

“Born and raised in the Chicago Suburbs, Smash Potater kicked things off with a deafening roar making their voices of the hometown heard loud and proud. Equipped with a dominant stage presence, these young aces damn sure know how to write a catchy song! The local scene could learn a thing or 3 from these guys. The 1st time I’ve been in awe from a hometown act in a long time! If you’re a hometown boy like me, and haven’t heard these guys, you’re messing up bad! This is YOUR calling!”

“I don’t know Smash Potato at all; I know their name isn’t the best I’ve heard.”
